6 Things About Organic Gardening No One Will Tell You
Do you remember that summer when you were just a little kid and the sun, seemed to shine brighter, the days felt longer, and life was just pure, unadulterated fun?
Sigh. Those were the days…
The days when I ran around barefoot in the backyard, feeling the grass between my toes, and helping Mom pick tomatoes from her tiny garden.
Yep, sure did! Little did I know, that was the beginning of my love affair with organic gardening.
Well, I’ve come a long way since then, and so has my gardening game.
Over the years, I’ve learned so much about organic gardening through trial and error.
Today, I’ll be sharing 6 things about organic gardening that no one ever talks about.

Pests Can Ruin Your Day… (Or Your Whole Garden)
Let me tell ya, I’ve had my fair share of battles in the bug department. No one tells you that your precious organic garden is like an all-you-can-eat buffet for all sorts of pest! Some of my tried-and-true tactics: companion planting, natural repellents, and good ol’ fashioned squishing (sorry, not sorry).
2. Organic ≠ Lazy
“Oh, so you’re just gonna let everything grow wild?”. Um…no.
When I tell people I practice organic gardening, I’m pretty sure they imagine a hot mess of weeds and chaos growing in my yard. But practicing organic gardening doesn’t mean being lazy! It takes dedication and plenty of elbow grease to maintain a healthy, well-balanced garden.
Consistent watering, weeding, and crop rotation are all part of the program
3. Go Au Naturel with Soil Amendments
Speaking of dedication, Ever wondered about how to create the most nutrient-packed soil for your beautiful plants? Spoiler: chemical fertilizers are NOT the answer.
Organic gardening is all about using natural soil amendments to maintain healthy soil life. Think compost, worm castings, and green manures… Yeah, it can get a little funky in the ol’ garden shed, but your plants will thank you.
4. Plan for the Long Game
No one says it out loud, but organic gardening requires some patience. Like, a LOT of it. Don’t expect overnight miracles when planting seeds, nurturing saplings, or waiting for your first harvest. Slow and steady wins the race, right?
Remember patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to Mother Nature.
5. You’ll NEVER Stop Learning
In this ever-changing world, there’s always something new to learn about organic gardening. New techniques, breakthroughs in research
- Stay Inquisitive: Don’t be afraid to try new things and explore different methods. Organic gardening is a journey, not a destination.

6. Embrace the Unexpected: Organic Gardening is Full of Surprises
Sometimes you’ll get unexpected blooms; sometimes a storm will take out your favorite tomato plant.
- Celebrate Successes, Big or Small: Did your roses bloom? Dance a happy dance!
- Adapt and Overcome: Learn to roll with the punches. An unexpected frost? No biggie, there are ways to protect your plants.
